9th Step – Create Your First Post

You are already on Step 10, and you are about to create your first post on your website.

Think about that for a second. You are about to create your first post!

Many people will never get to say that, because they never take action. You are taking action and getting things done.

With that said, it’s time to continue on.

What should your first blog post be about?

You probably already have an idea of what to write for your first post, but if you do not, keep reading and I’ll try to give you an idea of what you can write about.

Your first post is very important. It’s where you introduce yourself and let your readers know exactly what your website is about and what kind of content to expect from you.

For this website, I went ahead and made my About Me page my first post. I explained who I am, what I do and how I plan to help you.

For MakeMonayOnline.com, I am not going to create a blog post yet. I am going to create a page. I envision MakeMonayOnline.com as a resource that teaches anyone how to make money online and most of my content will be on pages. My first page will probably be explaining how making money online works.

You can go the same route as me, or you can start writing content helping people within your niche. The choice is up to you.

If you are going to write an introduction post, be sure to explain your future goals and explain how you are the leader of your niche. Make sure you are extremely straightforward and don’t promise anything you can’t deliver.

Let them know what kind of posts you are going to write such as articles, reviews, video reviews, tutorials, a series of posts, survey posts, comparison of products, etc…

Be more specific than just telling them you are going to create articles.

Tell them what kind of articles they can expect from you.

Make sure you spend a lot of time on your first post. It needs to be interesting and worth reading.

Remember, you can always go back and edit your pages and posts.

Create Your First Post

If you are going to create a page, click ‘Page’ instead.

On the New Post page, you need to name your post and then start writing.

Your Title is the Title of your post.

The permalink is the url for your post. Make it your post title, but include hypens ( ) instead of spaces.

You can also save a draft of your post to come back and work on it. However, after you publish your post, you can not save it as a draft if you go back and work on it. You will have to publish it when you are done.

You can set it to publish your post at a specific time and date as well. I have personally never gotten this to work for me though. It never publishes for me.

Last, you can choose to make your post available to the Public, you can make it private, and you can make it private with a password that will be required to view the post.

After you are click ‘Publish’, your post is now live and able to view on your website.

You can make any changes by going back to the post and making the changes. Then you will click ‘Update’.

The next step is where I share what I know about creating high-quality content and what you should be doing to ensure maximum success.
